Anuradhapura is a treasure trove of untold wonders, as it contains one of the best-preserved examples of Sri Lanka’s ancient civilisations, which seamlessly blends into the unspoiled north western terrain. The iconic city houses the ancient ruins of temples and palaces dating back to the 10th century BC, which has earned it the honourable badge of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
En route to Anuradhapura, do not forget to discover the architectural wonder of 3rd century BC, the closely located rock surfaces surrounded by dense jungle, impressive citadel of Thanthirimale Raja Mahaviharaya. Stepping on uncertain ground, there was a silent resolve to conquer the circumstances to appreciate the splendour and solemnity of a long-gone Sri Lankan story.
The journey was reminiscent of an era where holy men of this land would have similarly traversed rough terrain; encountering rain, wild animals and invaders, to meditate, tutor and learn.
